This crisis took us all by surprise but I believe more coordinated action to help local businesses survive/thrive was possible. I would help small local businesses with ideas to engage with the community within the constraints imposed by the crisis and organize these efforts with the help of the village.

Action Track: Building Resilience
Use Muscle Power
I will cut my car trip mileage by only taking necessary trips, and I will only use muscle-powered transportation for all other trips.
Climate
Local Climate Issues
I will spend at least 15 minute(s) a day researching climate issues or climate solutions in my local area and share with others through my team feed, social media, or conversations with my peers.
Fresh Water
Conserve Toilet Water
I will save up to 12 gallons (45 L) of water a day by flushing only when necessary.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate Local Climate IssuesIn what ways is your local community resilient to shock events like we’ve experienced recently? How could you help it become more resilient?
Ravi Parakkat 4/30/2020 12:16 PMI live in Oak Park and our investments in building and maintaining green ways, parks etc paid off. Social distancing forced people to walk and bicycle more during the current crisis and the community benefited from these investments.

REFLECTION QUESTIONFresh Water Conserve Toilet WaterWhat would a sustainable water future in your region look like? What needs to change?
Ravi Parakkat 4/03/2020 1:12 PMConsumption of water in a more mindful fashion. We are blessed with plenty of clean water and our behaviors are conditioned by this availability. This need to change to a mindset of scarcity. e.g. Avoid long showers -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Building Resilience Use Muscle PowerHow do your transportation choices affect your engagement in your community? Does your experience or enjoyment differ while walking, riding transit, biking or driving?
Ravi Parakkat 4/03/2020 1:07 PMI walked over to the grocery store. Great day for a walk. Did not have to worry about disinfecting my car post grocery run. The round trip took a little longer though... -
