Wildlife
Research a Wild Animal
I will spend at least 20 minutes learning about a wild animal I find interesting, including their life cycle, habitat, ecosystem functions, and interactions with humans (if any!).
Forests
Explore My Area
I will explore at least one new hiking trail or nature walk in my area while following CDC guidelines for social distancing.
Oceans
Smart Seafood Choices
I will visit seafoodwatch.org or download the app and commit to making better seafood choices for a healthier ocean.
Action Track: Building Resilience
Research Benefits of Biodiversity
I will spend at least 10 minutes researching how biodiversity positively impacts our world and how the loss of biodiversity harms it.
Action Track: Building Resilience
Advocate For More Food Options
Access to affordable, nutritious food is a food justice issue. I will advocate for local and/or organic food options in my state and/or community.
Food
Vedge Pledge and Webinar
I challenge you to go veg for a week. Sign up and I will provide you with daily updates during the week of the challenge (April 20th to 25th - send me an email that you want to join at [email protected]) We will have a webinar on Wednesday, April 22nd (Earth Day) at 9am Pacific/noon Eastern about the environmental impacts of food. Join the webinar and/or take the pledge :)
Action Track: Building Resilience
Volunteer in my Community
I will volunteer 10 hour(s) in my community helping people who are most at need right now, including elderly and immunocompromised people, people without childcare, and people whose jobs have been affected by social distancing measures.
Wildlife
Seek Alternative Gifts and Souvenirs
Bringing home unique souvenirs from trips you’ve enjoyed is meaningful, and giving people unique gifts from other places is fun. Seek souvenirs and gifts that support local communities and do not cause harm to the environment or wildlife.
People
Keep My Community Clean
I will pick up 1 piece(s) of litter each day while following the CDC’s current guidelines for prevention of disease transfer.
Action Track: Building Resilience
Connect While Social Distancing
I will connect with at least 2 person/people a day through phone call or video chat to support mine and other’s mental and emotional health during this challenging time.
Oceans
Learn about Our Oceans
I will spend at least 20 minutes learning about how our oceans support life on Earth by producing oxygen, regulating climate, and providing habitat, food, and jobs.
Climate
Calculate Personal Carbon Footprint
Complete your personal carbon footprint calculator. Go to www.wsppact.com and answer the questions for each section. The process takes about 10 minutes. Details about your utility bills and travel will be required. Please be as accurate as you can, but it’s not required to search for receipts.
Fresh Water
Dishwasher Efficiency
I will scrape, rather than rinse, dishes before loading into the dishwasher and only run the dishwasher when it’s full.
Fresh Water
Conserve Toilet Water
I will save up to 12 gallons (45 L) of water a day by flushing only when necessary.
Fresh Water
Water-Friendly Beauty Products
Avoid beauty products with micro beads or harsh chemicals that will feed into the ground and your water supply.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Krista Pritchett 4/30/2020 7:59 AMThis was the best Earth Day EcoChallenge yet! Eating vegan really helped my being mindful of choices and surroundings. It's definitely not the easiest way to live, but what good things are easy?! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Building Resilience Volunteer in my CommunityHow does volunteering enhance your community and/or change your relationship with it?
Krista Pritchett 4/30/2020 5:56 AMVolunteering makes you feel connected to humans that you wouldn't automatically assume you had anything in common with. Volunteering also makes you feel like it's okay to reach out and ask for help when it's your turn. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Vedge Pledge and WebinarHow does food impact your carbon footprint?
Krista Pritchett 4/28/2020 10:27 AMThe choices we make regarding food impact our carbon footprint because the factors of production (land, feed, machinery) are either better or worse for the environment. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate Calculate Personal Carbon FootprintWhat surprised you about your PACT results?
Krista Pritchett 4/28/2020 10:22 AMI was very surprised by my PACT results. My largest portion was eating! I was happy to take part in WSPs "Vedge Pledge" to try and limit the impact that my food was having on my PACT result. Now I feel confident in implementing more vegan dishes into my family's diet! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Building Resilience Connect While Social DistancingHow does connecting with others help your own mental and emotional health? How can it help support others?
Krista Pritchett 4/28/2020 10:19 AMConnecting with others lends empathy and support to those who are lonely and helps us remember that those relationships are important and strong.
