Maggie's actions
Oceans
Say No to Plastic Straws
An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When marine wildlife ingest plastic, they have a 50% mortality rate. By asking for no straw when placing a drink order, I will keep 3 plastic straw(s) of out of the ocean each day.
Climate
Choose LED Bulbs
I will replace 3 incandescent lightbulb(s) with Energy Star-certified LED bulbs, saving up to $14 per fixture per year.
Climate
Use Public Transit
If a necessary trip is longer than I can walk or bike, I will use public transit 15 mile(s) each day and avoid sending up to (___) lbs of CO2 into Earth's atmosphere, while being sure to follow CDC guidelines for prevention of disease infection or transfer.
Climate
Choose Renewable Energy or Purchase Renewable Energy Credits
I will sign up for my utility company's clean/renewable energy option. If my utility does not offer one, I will purchase Renewable Energy Credits to match my usage.
Food
Watch a Documentary about Food Sovereignty
I will watch 3 documentary(ies) about food sovereignty: the right of local peoples to control their own food systems including markets, ecological resources, food cultures and production methods.
Food
Compost Food Waste
I will avoid sending up to .69 lbs (.31 kg) of food waste to the landfill each day by composting my food or learning how to.
Food
Learn the Truth About Expiration Dates
I will spend at least 60 minutes learning how to differentiate between sell by, use by, and best by dates.
Fresh Water
Water-Friendly Beauty Products
Avoid beauty products with micro beads or harsh chemicals that will feed into the ground and your water supply.

REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate Choose Renewable Energy or Purchase Renewable Energy CreditsYour utility company is able to tell you your average energy usage. Ask them how your energy usage compares to others in your ZIP code, region, and/or state. What other steps can you take each day to reduce your electricity usage?
Maggie Ramos 4/23/2020 7:26 AMTo reduce electricity usage you can turn off your tv when you leave your house and you can unplug everything when its not in use -
Maggie Ramos 4/23/2020 7:25 AMI watched supersize me today and wanted to throw up I felt so disgusting from all of the gross things i learned.-
Carol White 4/23/2020 8:08 AMI watched that a few years ago and it was definitely an eye opener. It's amazing what we do to ourselves because we haven't taken the time or interest to educate ourselves.
