Action Track: Building Resilience

Connect Local, Support Local

We encourage teammates to connect to other local green organizations (including each other) and practice supporting local businesses at least once a week. Re-share a post, order curbside, make a donation to your favorite non-profit, or find a local business to make a purchase from! Let’s keep making St. Louis a greener, healthier, and more sustainable place to live, work, and learn! Have other or more specific actions to add to the Connect Local, Support Local Building Resilience Challenge please email [email protected].

Support Pollinators

At least 30% of crops and 90% of flowering plants rely on pollinators, including monarch butterflies, to produce fruit. I will spend 300 minutes researching which plants support local native pollinators and plant some in my yard.

I(ncreasing native plants in my yard

I have been removing invasive plants and planting native Missouri plants in my yard for 6 years. I am increasing that project in terms of percentage of my yard occupied by native plants. This year I will increase that space by at least 10% which will allow my yard to be certified Gold (up from Silver) by the Bring Conservation Home organization.

So far it's going well. Today acquired 18 more native Missouri plants for my garden. Also shared native asters with a relative so they could expand their native plantings. Driving very little these days so using less fuel.

I am committed to daily challenges in all categories. However some days do not offer daily action. For instance I do not shop on a daily basis therefore don't decline plastic bags on a daily basis. As for native plants in my yard I do work on that on a daily basis in some way, either adding native plants or caring for those already there.
