People
Register for Earth Day
I will register for a FREE ticket to attend the virtual St. Louis Earth Day Festival which spans from April 18-26, 2020, in order to gain access to daily live content and links that highlight the amazing work in our community that are paving way for a more sustainable future.

I will participate in at least (___) daily live events during the virtual St. Louis Earth Day Festival, which spans from April 18-26, 2020.
Wildlife
Use Reusable Bags
Plastic bags can be mistaken for food by many wild animals. If at all possible, I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases, including produce bags.
Forests
Forest-Friendly Foods
I will replace or remove the palm oil, coffee, and cocoa products in my current diet that are known to contribute to deforestation.
Forests
Choose Better Wood Products
I will only purchase wood and paper products from ecologically certified sources like Forest Stewardship Council.

Watch a Documentary about Food Sovereignty
I will watch 1 documentary(ies) about food sovereignty: the right of local peoples to control their own food systems including markets, ecological resources, food cultures and production methods.
People
Spend Time Outside
I will replace 30 minute(s) each day typically spent inside (computer time, watching television, etc.) with quality time outside that follows CDC guidelines for preventing disease spread.
Fresh Water
Conserve Toilet Water
I will save up to 12 gallons (45 L) of water a day by flushing only when necessary.
Forests
Explore My Area

REFLECTION QUESTIONPeopleWhy is it important that we learn about environmental advocacy in our own community?
Patricia Weisensee 4/19/2020 9:32 AMThe local environment / community is the easiest and "cleanest" to get involved in. It's here that we can make an impact and educate people -
REFLECTION QUESTIONForestsBeyond carbon sequestration, what other benefits do forests offer you personally?

REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlifeWhat do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reusable one with you? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to create a successful habit of not using plastic bags?
Patricia Weisensee 4/06/2020 4:08 PMluckily this doesn't happen very often; I have reusable bags in my car, and often carry a backpack. If I do end up w/o reusable bags, I try to carry things in my hands, and if that doesn't work, then I do accept disposable bags, but use them as trash bags (I don't but trash bags separately) -
REFLECTION QUESTIONPeopleRachel Carson said that we need the beauty and mysteries of the natural world for our spiritual and emotional development. Does that ring true for you? What are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time indoors?
Patricia Weisensee 4/06/2020 4:07 PMspending time indoors takes time away to realize the wonders that nature provides. The less we learn, the less we love, the less likely we are to protect it
