  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    People Spend Time Outside
Rachel Carson said that we need the beauty and mysteries of the natural world for our spiritual and emotional development. Does that ring true for you? What are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time indoors?

Spending time outside allows me to see that life continues.  I get to see the changes of each day with flowers blooming, birds singing.  I am able to connect with the world outside of myself.  It helps me put things into perspective.   The natural world is where I can easily see the 'hand of God'.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    People Connect While Social Distancing
How does connecting with others help your own mental and emotional health? How can it help support others?

Connecting with others helps me acknowledge how we are each dealing with this situation differently.  We each have our own fears and anxieties.  Talking with others helps me with compassion for others and for myself.  It keeps me connected and helps me know I am not alone. I expect it also helps others know they are important in my life and that they are not alone in this.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food Learn the Truth About Expiration Dates
How does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?

Learning the difference of these can help me in making decisions.  For instance, the Best by date lets me know the freshness of the item will diminish.  I can make an educated decision knowing when the item is freshest.  I may choose to eat the product past the Best by and be assured the item is still good.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Reduce Animal Products
Why do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?

Reducing consumption of meat is a positive way to reduce the methane given off by animal waste.  If demand for meat is reduce, then possibly the production would also be reduced.   Eating a more plant based diet is healthier for people and for the planet.

Hi Jo-Ellen! Greetings from Los Angeles! I am mostly meatless because my kids are both vegetarian, and I have grown to prefer vegetarian and often vegan food. It's good to see the change in focus over meat these days.
