    I recently watched an American Experience documentary about Norman Borlaug who created a hybrid wheat that could withstand all sorts of hostile growing conditions. His desire was to address nutrition and food shortages in developing countries but the unintended consequences of his actions created a model of industrial agriculture that we have today - one that is water and fertilizer intensive and creates many environmental and social hazards.

    Meandering through the Berkeley Hills makes me notice the diversity of people and city nature much more then when you zoom around quickly by car or even by bike.

    Eggs: 1 month from, uh, production, and if they are farm fresh and not washed (!), you can keep safely them on the counter. (When eggs are washed, you wash off the natural 'bloom' layer.)
