Using the links provided, investigate the bottling practices of water corporations. There have been many cases where the water rights of the local people have been violated or even completely disregarded when a corporation decides to bottle water from a particular water source. How can you advocate for those who have been harmed - both humans and wildlife - by this bottling process?

The biggest ways I can be an advocate is to first bring awareness to this issue by educating myself and then telling others what I learn. I can also make sure that I am not supporting these business by not buying bottled water and making sure to be mindful of the products I am buying!

What environmentally friendly habit have you most recently implemented? How do you ensure that you are successful in creating or changing a habit?

I have been making my own products (cleaner, toothpaste, etc.) and reusing old containers from condiment jars and a bunch of other random products to store the products I've been making. To ensure that I am successful in creating this habit I have been trying to find content that teaches me how to make my own things as well as making sure I am only purchasing things that I can reuse in the future!

How can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place?

Spending more time outdoors can really help you feel more at home in the area you live. Once I am more aware of trails and like good nature spots I feel way more apart of my local community! It also allows you to get more in tuned with the plant life and wildlife in your community which can be so interesting especially in a place like Ashland, OR!

    Food Weekly Meal Planning
An average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Does this surprise you? Where would you rather use this money?

Sadly this doesn’t surprise me. A lot of people (myself included) buy more food than they can use and end up having to get rid of it because it went bad or they need to make more room in their fridge. I have been trying to limit my food waste and only buy the amount of things I need, but it can definitely be hard during times like this. Especially when you have limited food options, but being a conscious shopper is still extremely important. I would rather spend money on bills or school than on food I’m just going to waste!

Rachel Carson said that we need the beauty and mysteries of the natural world for our spiritual and emotional development. Does that ring true for you? What are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time indoors?

This definitely rings true for me! Being outside brings so much clarity to my life and is something that is extremely beneficial to my emotional and physical wellbeing. The implication this has for a culture that spends most of its time indoors is just that a lot of people are unhappy and don’t even actually realize that spending some time in nature everyday can really improve their outlook on life!
