Action Track: Building Resilience
Spend Time Outside
I will replace 30 minute(s) each day typically spent inside (computer time, watching television, etc.) with quality time outside that follows CDC guidelines for preventing disease spread.
Action Track: Building Resilience
Connect While Social Distancing
I will connect with at least 5 person/people a day through phone call or video chat to support mine and other’s mental and emotional health during this challenging time.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONPeople Earth Day Action: Share Eco TipsWhat environmentally friendly habit have you most recently implemented? How do you ensure that you are successful in creating or changing a habit?
Jody Elam-Foote 4/30/2020 5:22 PMWith working from home, I haven't been putting make up on most days, opting to just use moisturizer. The makeup industry is one the biggest pollutors in the world and by buying less makeup and going barefaced more often, I can make a difference! -
Jody Elam-Foote 4/30/2020 5:12 PMI went and explored a new trail with a friend late this afternoon and am so glad that I did. What a gorgeous day to be out in nature, exploring all it has to offer. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONForests Explore My AreaHow can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place?
Jody Elam-Foote 4/30/2020 5:09 PMBeing outside really makes you appreciate the beauty that nature offers while grounding you and providing serenity and calmness. -
Jody Elam-Foote 4/29/2020 2:54 PMOnly one more day to go and I've thoroughly enjoyed this challenge. Keep up the good work, fellow LHBers! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONPeople Volunteer in my CommunityHow does volunteering enhance your community and/or change your relationship with it?
Jody Elam-Foote 4/29/2020 2:51 PMI spent time with a friend, social distanced of course, and put together 30 of these baskets to share with seniors from her church who are home alone. What a fun thing to do. Hope they bring a smile to a few faces!

Jody Elam-Foote 4/28/2020 6:28 PMSo glad it cleared up for a walk after dinner tonight. Definitely needed the fresh air after being on the computer all day. -
Jody Elam-Foote 4/27/2020 5:18 PMHere's a tip that I got from a friend that I've recently tried and it actually works on making berries last longer. Mix 1-part vinegar (either apple cider or white) with 10-parts water in a bowl. ” Swirl the berries” in the diluted vinegar mixture, drain, and rinse before putting them into the fridge. This will help raspberries last a week (or more), and strawberries may survive for two weeks before going bad.

Jyotsna Sivaguru 4/28/2020 7:35 PMGreat tip, thanks for sharing. I'm going to try this. As our intervals between grocery store runs have increased, I'm looking for more ways to make fresh fruits last longer, without having to freeze them as soon as we bring them home.

Jody Elam-Foote 4/26/2020 4:38 PMI went through my cupboards today and made a trip to Target as well and then put together a couple of boxes of food that I'll be dropping off at Second Harvest Heartland tomorrow. Their website said they needed canned meats, peanut butter, beef stew and chili, so that's what I loaded up on at Target. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONForests Plant TreesHow is planting trees good for your mental, physical, and spiritual health?
Jody Elam-Foote 4/26/2020 4:24 PMPlanting a tree in our yard brings joy in that we're planting something for the present and the future generations to enjoy. This tree will benefit us today and bring a smile to our faces every time we see it and it will also bring joy to the next homeowners 20, 30 and 50 years from now. -
Jody Elam-Foote 4/25/2020 9:49 PMI went for a long walk with a friend today and we picked up trash along the way. It's frustrating to see how little disregard some people have for their community and neighborhood, but nice to know that we made a difference in getting rid of the garbage.
