REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Reduce Animal ProductsWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?
Zhu Parker 4/19/2020 2:36 PMPeople in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places because they have the financial resources to ensure the meat they are consuming is healthy to eat. While I do not like to discourage people from eating meat as I understand the health and cultural benefits of eating meat, I do think paying attention to how the animal was raised and what kind of ethical practices was used in producing the meat has an affect on our planet and others. Knowing you are supporting practices that minimize its negative effect on the environment can make you better understand your relationship with yourself and the earth. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Building Resilience Connect While Social DistancingHow does connecting with others help your own mental and emotional health? How can it help support others?
Zhu Parker 4/17/2020 10:46 AMWhen going through difficult times, connecting with others who are experiencing the same things as you can help with your mental and emotional health. Knowing you are not alone and others are going through the same things as you can help create stronger bonds and provide support. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONForests Forest-Friendly FoodsHow difficult or easy was it to change your diet?
Zhu Parker 4/17/2020 10:37 AMThis is a tough question to answer because while changing my eating habits has never been a struggle for me, I understand a lot of it has to do with the fact that I am privilege enough to have the financial resource and food access to make this change. As I do more research of how my eating habits can contribute to the environment and my health, I am grateful I have the opportunity to shift my habits to support these values. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONForests Explore My AreaHow can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place?
Zhu Parker 4/17/2020 10:26 AMWhen spending long periods in the outdoors, I always find myself thinking about how small I am in such a big world. This thought process has contributed a lot to my relationship with the outdoors and my sense of place as it reminds me to stop dwelling on unnecessary stressors and focus on things that truly matters. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONForests Use a Reusable MugMaybe you've heard how good it is to switch from a single use coffee cup to a reusable one, but it's just hard to make the switch. What stands in your way of making this a habit? By identifying the challenges, you can begin to work through them to have better success in taking this action. Knowing the difference you are making, how does it make you feel?
Zhu Parker 4/17/2020 10:13 AMWhile I try my best to use reusable cups when out, I do forget every now and then. I think it is important to remind ourselves that we're not perfect and it's okay to slip up. Simply being conscious of our actions and making shifts to changing our habits is something worth celebrating! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate Use Muscle PowerHow do your transportation choices affect your engagement in your community? Does your experience or enjoyment differ while walking, riding transit, biking or driving?
Zhu Parker 4/17/2020 10:03 AMby choosing to walk or bike as my main form of transportation, I am not only reducing my carbon footprint, but I am also giving myself time to slow down and enjoy my surroundings. This has affected my engagement in my community as I am noticing the parks and bike paths are becoming busier than the roads. Becoming aware of this has reaffirmed my love for nature and the many benefits it provides -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Building Resilience Get Involved in the Water Justice MovementWho is affected by polluted water or a lack of access to water in your region? How are they affected?
Zhu Parker 4/16/2020 10:01 AMEveryone would be affected in my region of pollution was to get into our watershed. Our watershed is the point source of where many of us get water, so if it was to be contaminated, everyone who uses water could potentially be affected negatively.
