Wildlife

Support Pollinators

At least 30% of crops and 90% of flowering plants rely on pollinators, including monarch butterflies, to produce fruit. I will spend 30 minutes researching which plants support local native pollinators and plant some in my yard.

It was very easy to cut my car driving mileage.  The only time I drove was to pick up groceries or to drive the car so the batteries and tires would not go bad.  I walked or carpooled the rest of the time.  I sure saved a lot of money on gas.  Hopefully the air quality is better also.

Although I did not finish my native plantings, I have a plan.  It will definitely take more than 1 month to complete.  I am still working on limiting my plastic consumption from the last Eco Challenge.  Except for ordering things on-line, I am doing very well limiting the plastics that are coming into my house.

A work friend gave me this environmental friendly tip.  I bring my own hand towel and napkin to work instead of using paper towels.  It actually was quite hard to break the paper towel habit.  I would find I would have my own towel and still reach for the paper towels.

At home I use rags for everything.  I cut up any cotton item that needs to be thrown away and turn it into a rag.  One time my grandkids had an emergency at their house and even called me to bring rags over.

Trying to decide where to buy native plants and where to put them.  I think I have decided to put the first ones near my mailbox.  First I need to remove the grass in the area.  I will work on that today.

Snow pack seems very important since if there is no snow the rivers dry up in the summer.
Also polluted rivers, although they seem cleaner now that many of the mills upriver have closed down.

I connected with a friend I had not talked to in awhile and realized she had been going through a hard time. It helped both of us to conect.

Since I started using mass transit I have met a lot of people I am lifetime friends with.  I like the social interaction.

I have been walking since the social distancing happened.  It is not as social.
