Coleen's actions
Forests
Explore My Area
I will explore at least one new hiking trail or nature walk in my area while following CDC guidelines for social distancing.
Forests
Use a Reusable Mug
If possible, I will avoid sending 1 disposable cup(s) to the landfill each day by using a reusable mug.
Oceans
Join a Cleanup Effort
I will host or participate in a trash pickup at a local river or beach that follows the CDC’s current guidelines for prevention of disease transfer.
Oceans
Say No to Plastic Straws
An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When marine wildlife ingest plastic, they have a 50% mortality rate. By asking for no straw when placing a drink order, I will keep 2 plastic straw(s) of out of the ocean each day.
Wildlife
Research a Wild Animal
I will spend at least 30 minutes learning about a wild animal I find interesting, including their life cycle, habitat, ecosystem functions, and interactions with humans (if any!).
Wildlife
Use Reusable Bags
Plastic bags can be mistaken for food by many wild animals. If at all possible, I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases, including produce bags.
Wildlife
Leave No Trace
I will respect and protect biotic communities by practicing the seven principles of Leave No Trace when doing nature activities alone or with family and friends.
Fresh Water
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 03 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.

Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

Coleen Seitter 4/19/2020 11:02 AMPicked up trash along another segment of the Eau Gallie Causeway today. Found beaucoup cans and plastic & glass bottles stuck throughout the rocks. I recycled those. Beautiful day! -
Coleen Seitter 4/08/2020 3:58 PMWalked the Linear Trail at the Zoo today picking up trash. The trash wasn't too bad & a lot of folks were out social distancing.-
Marjie Wolfe 4/08/2020 7:55 PMI love Linear trail. Thanks for gathering trash, this park does tend to stay on the clean side, and I like it has trash cans we can use along the way.

Coleen Seitter 4/02/2020 2:04 PMExplored the Cruickshank Sanctuary in Rockledge for the first time. Nice little two mile trail. One Scrub Jay made it all worthwhile, letting me get within a couple of feet of him.-
Marjie Wolfe 4/02/2020 5:33 PMI love this place. The birds, gophers and nature there is very much Florida scrub! I saw a great horned owl nest there last year... and an osprey nest too. The scrub jays are extra sweet. I'm glad you found this little treasure.

Coleen Seitter 4/01/2020 11:37 AMSpent 2 hours cleaning up trash on the north side of the Eau Gallie Causeway in Melbourne, FL & didn't seem to make a dent in it. I probably only covered 100'.-
Marjie Wolfe 4/01/2020 2:29 PMEvery bit helps... I try not to pass up any trash too.
