City of Portland - BPS Feed

BACK TO TEAM PAGE

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

This has been the strangest challenge ever!  Typically I would always want to cook dinner at home, but right now I want to support local restaurants.  But getting exercise is way easier during the pandemic because I'm not commuting 2 hours per day, so I have more time.

I do think that the practice of having everyone work from home will allow us the opportunity to significantly reduce our impacts. Imagine if a significant number of us at BPS worked half in the office and half from home and shared work stations! We could reduce commutes, reduce our footprint, reduce costs to the City (while incurring a little cost bump at home). The impacts could be huge, maybe it's time we get on board with a new way of doing things... I'm totally up for shaking things up even after this has passed :)

Sorry it took me a while to get this up and running. Thank you Harmonee for keeping this going, I'm high fiving you :) This is a good reminder that even when life changes so drastically, we still need to keep our eyes on the prize!

What would a sustainable water future in your region look like? What needs to change?

Less purchasing of new items. More green canopy and living roof tops. Taking care of our more vulnerable population. Less commuting.

I think part of the change that needs to happen is a buy in by the business community and some hard lines to be drawn by the government. There is no reason why new buildings can't be required to have some sort of eco-roof (solar panels, living roof, etc) or for every tree cut down in the process of construction, it has to be replaced in the landscaping or elsewhere.
