This ecochallenge has been a wonderful way to begin thinking about my personal sustainability and actionable steps I can take. It was great to reflect daily, start ritualistic practices and research new methods and thought processes I can incorporate into my overall lifestyle. I'm happy I was a part of this, and I hope there is a way I can continue to reflect on this throughout the year. I'd like if this ecochallenge continued to stay up for the year, perhaps with weekly or monthly checkins?

Food Learn the Truth About Expiration Dates
How does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?

I now understand that these open dates are not about the safety of the food product, but more about the quality of the food.  I will be more intentional about buying food and letting it go unused after the open date shown on the package.

Dog bags. I do not know how I can possibly replace this one.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Climate Choose LED Bulbs
Changing lightbulbs is an excellent first step toward energy efficiency! In what other ways can you exercise your civic duty to protect the environment and reduce carbon emissions?

Looking around my house for passive ways to reduce my carbpn emissions is key. I would like to research simple, yet unnoticed things in my household that might be able to help in the same way a simple light bulb change can.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Building Resilience Spend Time Outside
Rachel Carson said that we need the beauty and mysteries of the natural world for our spiritual and emotional development. Does that ring true for you? What are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time indoors?

Yes this statement rings true for me.  I'm so inspired when I spend time outdoors.  Especially now that we have a large background with a  garden.  Sometimes it's just hearing the birds sing, or watching how the grass goes dormant to a lush green. The inspiration is everywhere and reminds me that I'm a part of a much greater existence.

Connecting with others demonstrates a level of togetherness that can not be felt otherwise. It can support others by allowing others to feel that they are not alone, are thought about and valued/loved.

I saw that we should encourage local farming and community gardens to empower people to make their own food choices!

I leaned about chimpanzees by watching the National Geographic movie about Jane Goodall. I learned how similar they are to humans. I love how family oriented they are.
