Lutherans Restoring Creation - Central States

Lutherans Restoring Creation

Lutherans Restoring Creation (LRC) is a grass-roots effort designed to encourage the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) to incorporate care for creation into its full life and mission at all levels. The goal is to incorporate care for creation into the organizational patterns, worship life, educational programs, responsibility for buildings and grounds, discipleship of members at home and work, and public ministry leadership development—so that Earth-keeping and justice for all Earth community become integral to the identity and purpose of our church. The 2018 Central States Synod Assembly adopted a resolution to encourage congregations to become 'Green Congregations' by forming green teams. Ecochallenge is one way congregations can be active in fulfilling their vocations of caring for Creation.

I haven't been as diligent in this challenge. Covid 19  has distracted me. I grieve all the items I could nott recycle but had to put in the trash.

We have supported a particular local restaurant because they share our values and make wonderful food available while doing so. They source ingredients locally and they utilize compostable containers for their food. In addition, during this time of quarantine, they have helped other local producers by sharing their products from their...

I wasn't very faithful about checking in on a daily basis during this challenge, especially as the weather got nicer! However, I did learn some new things and change my behavior so that's progress.

I wrote a piece on Earth Day 50th Anniversary and resources for Earth Day and Lutherans Restoring Creation for my church, Lutheran Church of the Atonement in Florissant Mo for the weekly e-mail blast to  congregation members.

We are really working to reduce our food waste. Planning for at least a week at a time with the covid crisis has helped us be more mindful about what we are buying. We are less likely to run out and "grab a bite to eat" at a restaurant. I want to eat more local food, too. It doesn't surprise me that so much food is wasted. Maybe COVID...

I was able to make a video for Earth Day for my colleagues at work. I took it in my garden and showed them how my lettuce, spinach, and peas had sustained through the freezes we've had lately. I used that as a metaphor for how we can sustain through COVID challenges.
