Hope's actions
Oceans
Smart Seafood Choices
I will visit seafoodwatch.org or download the app and commit to making better seafood choices for a healthier ocean.
Forests
Explore My Area
I will explore at least one new hiking trail or nature walk in my area while following CDC guidelines for social distancing.
Forests
Plant Trees
I will plant 10 native tree(s) in my community, public parks, or backyard.
People
Keep My Community Clean
I will pick up 5 piece(s) of litter each day while following the CDC’s current guidelines for prevention of disease transfer.
Food
Reduce Animal Products
I will enjoy 1 meatless meal(s) and/or 0 vegan meal(s) each day of the challenge.
Wildlife
Research a Wild Animal
I will spend at least 30 minutes learning about a wild animal I find interesting, including their life cycle, habitat, ecosystem functions, and interactions with humans (if any!).
Action Track: Building Resilience
Spend Time Outside
I will replace 60 minute(s) each day typically spent inside (computer time, watching television, etc.) with quality time outside that follows CDC guidelines for preventing disease spread.
Action Track: Building Resilience
Connect While Social Distancing
I will connect with at least 1 person/people a day through phone call or video chat to support mine and other’s mental and emotional health during this challenging time.
Action Track: Building Resilience
Support Pollinators
At least 30% of crops and 90% of flowering plants rely on pollinators, including monarch butterflies, to produce fruit. I will spend 30 minutes researching which plants support local native pollinators and plant some in my yard.
Action Track: Building Resilience
Connect Local, Support Local
We encourage teammates to connect to other local green organizations (including each other) and practice supporting local businesses at least once a week. Re-share a post, order curbside, make a donation to your favorite non-profit, or find a local business to make a purchase from! Let’s keep making St. Louis a greener, healthier, and more sustainable place to live, work, and learn! Have other or more specific actions to add to the Connect Local, Support Local Building Resilience Challenge please email Fbrandt@mobot.org.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Hope Gribble 4/07/2020 6:35 AMThese magnificent beings restore us on so many levels, while providing essential support to the many other forms of life that surround us. I love MDC's Trees Work campaign! Check out their website to learn more about Tree Benefits, Care, and Identification.-

REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Building Resilience Support PollinatorsWhy is it important to take care of pollinators?
Hope Gribble 4/07/2020 6:20 AMPollinators are an essential part of the life cycle - to life as we know it and in realms beyond our knowing. Let's do what we can to support the habitats they need for survival. Native pollinators need native plants! If you haven't yet, check out Doug Tallamy's website and book 'Bringing Nature Home' for the why and how of landscaping to support pollinators and food webs. -
Hope Gribble 4/07/2020 6:07 AMSo many colors are appearing in our yard! For one of our art projects, my son and I collected objects from throughout our yard, and then he placed them on a color wheel he had painted a few years ago. Spring is such a beautiful time!
