    People Spend Time Outside
Rachel Carson said that we need the beauty and mysteries of the natural world for our spiritual and emotional development. Does that ring true for you? What are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time indoors?

I'm not a very spiritual person by nature, but I do think there's something to the quote. I know with the time we've spent exploring new places with the kids does seem kind of magical...we're finding a place that (even if its only in our minds) has never been explored before.  I do think that's important...our culture is all of us in our community, not what's in our walls, so even doing this during a social distancing, it's important to a greater sense of belonging in your community

    Oceans Smart Seafood Choices
Many states and countries have advisories on eating fish. Find out what is advised for your region. Do you think your diet choices fall within these guidelines? What steps do you need to take to make sure that they do?

I'll be the first to admit that I don't pay any attention to this. I've been lazy and usually rely on my wife (who does the vast majority of the grocery shopping!) and I know she pays attention.  Not an excuse, obviously, but as I've been doing more of the shopping this was super helpful research into understand how to make better choices when at the store. The biggest step? Honestly, it's just paying attention!

We are a very wasteful society. Things aren’t even made to last very long anymore either. Things are changing, but not as fast as they need to be. They need to change more, faster locally as well as globally.

I just noticed that the current first place team in the competition is Asheville High school!  There are a lot of schools in the ecochallenge, and I'm just happy to see my local community engaged.  This lockdown has made me even more appreciative of what this town has to offer.

I really like the challenge if connevtingbwith people during this pandemic!
I have used texts, email, phone calls, and video chats to connect and really enjoy being able to stay in touch with people I can see in person.

I am learning a lot of new things by viewing documentaries on conservation.  It really brings home the point of conservation when you see how your actions can improve the world.

    People Support A Sharing Economy
What are the benefits of a sharing economy? How could a sharing economy change the dynamics you have with friends, family and/or neighbors?

A friend is borrowing a tablet I am not using anymore (since it is a hard time to make big purchases!). He made us some masks and baked cookies. Another friend dropped off a couple of books and I plan to bring her kids hair product that is wasting its time at my house. I hope the sharing economy continues. It’s sensible for waste reduction and connecting with friends and neighbors
