It was great to get the kids out and doing something physical that will help the environment for years to come.

I'm so sad that this challenge is ending but definitely planning to do better regularly! :)
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Wildlife Use Reusable Bags
What do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reusable one with you? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to create a successful habit of not using plastic bags?

With the coronavirus restrictions, most places have stopped letting you use reusable bags.  At Trader Joe's I just have them put the things back in the cart, then I can put them in my bags at my car.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

Use sunlight instead!  Turn off lights when not needed.  Drive less.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

How does the act of picking up litter connect you more to your community?

Because I get to see what people throw out the windows or their cars or let blow out of their trash?  If anything, I feel more disconnected because I feel that my community doesn't care about how much trash it is producing or how much is going to the landfill.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Fresh Water Conserve Toilet Water
What would a sustainable water future in your region look like? What needs to change?

I really dislike that everyone thinks they need to have a green lawn.  And to keep it green, it needs a certain amount of water every day.  Why not plant drought-resistant or native grasses?  A mono-culture is not a sustainable culture and it isn't very interesting.  I would much rather see prairie grass than a green lawn.

We are living in stressful times.  However, there are some positives that have occurred.  Let's work hard to keep the good changes in air quality, noise reduction, and stress reduction going.  The animals in our national parks are loving it that we are letting them be who they are.   Let's encourage a slowdown in life for the betterment of all creatures.

This challenge has reinforced my awareness of our changing and stressed climate and environments.  I resolve to do more to save the earth.  I already get push back from some in my world but I will continue to ignore them and push more.  Especially to keep plastic out of the landfill.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
