This past month I've started saving any non-recyclable disposable bags to take with me on my walks for picking up trash, and I'm going to try to keep up the habit of picking up trash on my walks all summer long!

I have a feeling of pride when I pick up trash to make our neighborhood more beautiful.  It's an action that improves the space that I share with my neighbors.  I am serving my community and helping to beautify it.

I really enjoyed being part of this challenge, working with my Sustainable Resilient Longmont team.

    Food Weekly Meal Planning
An average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Does this surprise you? Where would you rather use this money?

My partner and I meal plan a week's worth of meals and then create our grocery list to cover all the recipes' ingredients.  We feast on leftovers at the end of the week and rarely throw anything away.  By doing this, there is no produce that goes bad because we have cooked with it or if there are unused veggies we come up with a recipe to use them.  I hate to throw out good food so I don't!

Today's sunshine is making me smile. Humans are in a mess right now, no doubt, but working with the earth's natural systems instead of against them, we can find a way to a more just and sustainable world. Don't give up! Let nature be your guide and keep Earth Day in mind every day, all year long!

Happy to see my veggies garden doing well, and the bees buzzing on my plum blossoms.

    Food Compost Food Waste
New to composting? Be sure to check out the action resource links to learn tips and more about it. As you transition from throwing food away to composting, what do you notice about how much you are tossing? How will you use your compost once it is ready?

Kale stalks have taken on great importance. I'm making a special compost from kitchen scraps -- no yard waste in this little spot -- so that I can make a super healthy compost. I want to use it in flower pots and my perennial flower beds.

This is another thing I've done for 30+ years, but w/COVID i was reluctant to pick up fresh trash and recycling, but now I just bring a newpaper/plastic bag and put on to collect these items and place in a plastic bag which I keep reusing.

Also, I've stopped picking up dog poop w/a plastic newspaper bad and now bring a small shovel and bucket  to collect my dog's waste and flush in toilet.  Luckily my husband holds the leash cuz my hands are full now...
